We’re all spending more time at home and many of us haven’t had so much free time to fill for a while. Coronavirus has truly changed our day-to-day lives. With New Years upon us, I’m sharing my top five YouTube channels to follow in 2021. Some of these accounts are fun and interesting while others may genuinely have a life-changing impact.
Top Five YouTube Channels To Follow In 2021
Here we go. Below are my top five YouTube channels to follow in 2021 with a brief description to give you an idea of what you’re getting yourself in to by subscribing to them.
1. Philip Defranco
Phil is an OG YouTuber having been on the platform for over a decade. While he has several channels, the one I’m recommending is his main one that’s simply called “Philip Defranco” with 6.5M subscribers at the time of writing this. In his daily (Mon-Fri) videos varying from 10 minutes to 20 minutes long, Phil dives in to lot’s of current news stories. Although American, Phil does report on noteworthy news and points of interest outside of the U.S.A. One of the few sources of news that is reported upon intelligently while also being entertaining and non-bias. This show will surely top up your general knowledge on current affairs and provide points of interest to your daily conversations.
2. Julia K Crist
Julia went from zero to hero in 2020, amassing almost 300k subscribers. Rightfully so. Julia is a bubbly and positive American college student who posts mostly about technology and productivity but there are many hidden gems within her videos that may not be apparent from the titles. During 2020 I’ve picked up great tips on customising my laptop from Julia as well as finding inspiration from the various accessories that she’s shown, and you could, too.
A channel from Lew, of UnboxTherapy that currently has 17.7M subscribers. Lew Later is bite sized chunks of interesting stories or developments from all kinds of stories covering the globe. These videos can be very informative and insightful. The fact that they’re short and concise makes them great for multiple consumption. Watching the occasional video from this channel will likely make you, or at least make you appear smarter.
4. JRE Clips
2020 was a crazy year for Joe Rogan. If you don’t know, Joe is the host of the worlds most listened to podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience”. Well, Joe created his success through YouTube and podcasting but in 2020 Spotify purchased exclusive rights to the show for $100M. That’s right, one hundred million dollars. Crazy, huh? Short clips from the show can still be enjoyed on YouTube and they are very interesting. Just this week I’ve watched clips with Joe speaking to Macaulay Culkin, Brian Cox and Elon Musk to name a few. This YouTube channel will undoubtably blow your mind.
5. Ali Abdaal
Ali is a Cambridge medical graduate, junior doctor and now successful YouTuber. Currently, Ali has 1.3M subscribers but deserves more. While his posh voice and nerdy demeanour, along with occasional smugness may put some people off, he is a fountain of useful knowledge. I’ve made several life-changing discoveries through Ali’s videos in 2020. With every year I grow older my patience for cringe, obnoxious content creators shortens and my respect for creators like Ali who speak intelligently grows. Ali’s channel will undoubtedly make you smarter, more mindful as well as stoking your creative juices.
That’s it. That’s my top five YouTube accounts to follow in 2021. Not only is there an enormous selection of highly interesting and useful content spread over those channels but they’re also all completely free. Take some of your furlough time, time off, social distancing time, self-isolation, holiday or shielding time to enjoy these channels. I’m certain you’ll enjoy them.
Top Five YouTube Accounts To Follow In 2021 – Bonus
As a bonus YouTube account to follow in 2021 I’m going to mention my channel. Like most magicians, it’s been a particularly difficult year all around but I have some videos on my channel as well as more in the works for 2021. Until they release, I recommend my “Bites Of Wonder” series where I tell various stories from my career as a professional magician.
