Lot’s of people are asking themselves “should I postpone my wedding due to coronavirus” at the moment. As a professional magician, I’m hired for a lot of weddings and with the majority of my 2020 weddings being postponed, I’m here to give my professional opinion on the top three reasons to postpone your wedding due to coronavirus.
Should I Postpone My Wedding: Service Deposits
If you go ahead with your planned wedding in 2020, your preferred suppliers may not be available anymore. Coronavirus has had an enormous affect on supply chains and staffing. This will affect your caterers, Dj’s and magicians. Contact your suppliers (if you haven’t already) to ask what their policy is on deposits, payments and refunds during coronavirus. If you decide to go ahead with your wedding in 2020, the supplier(s) you already paid not only won’t be able to provide services but also may not be in a position to refund your deposit, either.
Should I Postpone My Wedding: Future Discounts
Venue’s don’t want to lose your custom, but they only have a certain amount of dates each year. If your wedding day is planned for 2021 it’s worth contacting your venue to offer them your date, as someone who was booked in for 2020 will likely want it. In return for postponing your wedding another 6-12 months, ask the venue if they will offer a gesture of good will. This could be a package upgrade or straight discount on the fee.
Should I Postpone My Wedding: Your Guests
Your nearest and dearest have been affected by Covid-19, too. For normal contracted workers the best outcome will have been furlough, which still only leaves them with up to 80% of their normal salary. For those who are self-employed, cashflow could have dried up entirely and they may not be in the position to travel to your wedding at the moment. As such, postponing your wedding could alleviate the added stress of attending your wedding during the pandemic recovery.
There you have it. My top three reasons to postpone your wedding due to coronavirus. I hope that you found my thoughts helpful. Finally, this is a time to exercise patience. Be kind with your venue and be understanding with your suppliers. Your wedding day is coming and it will be everything you dreamed of.
